Voting for Jesus

So Barak Obama is the new president. Some people feel really excited, others….well we can leave that for Fox News. Either way we all seem to like the fact we have some say in who is elected President. It makes me feel like I am apart of deciding our history as Americans, but what about my role in Christianity? Do I get a vote?

The thing is God’s Kingdom is much different than the one we live in everyday. America wants your allegiance,

but Jesus – He wants everything.

Honestly, I think we view Christianity through a very tainted democratic lens. Unfortunately, this leaves us with the impression that we are in control of our destiny.

It’s like we want all the benefits of Christianity, but none of the responsibilities. We’re content to live in the Kingdom, without living for the Kingdom.

That’s why we’re so miserable.

We don’t realize it, but so many we act like Spiritual Anarchists. We’re fighting for control of something we should have already given up. As I’ve heard it said before, “Jesus is either King of everything, or He is not king at all.”

God put a desire in each human to feel significant. We want to be apart of something bigger than our problems, bigger than our pain, bigger than ourselves. We want to find significance in a movement, a goal, a mission that is making a difference for us and everyone it touches.

But whenever we buy into the lie that “It’s all about me” we forfeit the ability to look past our insignificant selves, and to true significance.

Look at History, there is a story that has unfolded, an agenda that is still being pursued.

God is writing history as we speak. He is working miracles and moving nations, but he is looking for able hands and willing hearts.

You are what God is looking for.

You are supposed to be apart of His Story.

It’s a mission too big for one person, and God is pulling on your heart to start moving. If we can quiet the selfishness of our sin, if we could ignore the greed and laziness that so easily consumes us, we could hear the call.

Give allegiance to the King.

Give allegiance to Your King.

Give allegiance to Our King.
